Families and groups:

We think this is a lovely place to come for a winter holiday with your family or in a large group; the resort is very friendly and has expanded without losing its individuality. It also offers a whole range of different activities so it is especially suitable for groups where not everyone wants to ski.  One of our favourite places is the Ski Nordique centre at the top of the Col du Joux Plane, above Samoëns. Not only can you follow the cross country ski trails or take off on snowshoes, there is also a great toboggan slope which is always heaving with children and their parents.

Chalet Brio has been flexibly designed with all the elements that make a successful family holiday; there’s plenty of space for enjoying family time together and quieter places to relax, you can all sit down to eat together or younger children can eat earlier in the evening, upstairs there’s a separate play area with a TV and DVD so that you don’t all have to watch TV.  Two of the five bedrooms have extra beds and bathrooms with both a bath and a shower. If you need a cot or a high chair we can provide it, you can heat up baby foods and drinks in the microwave and use the fridge to keep things fresh.

Childcare:

It’s always important to know that your children, especially the youngest, are well taken care of; there are two crèches on the slopes at Samoëns 1600 and Morillon 1100 which take children from six months old and another crèche in Samoens town centre which takes from 3 months.

Or we can put you in touch with a qualified English child minder. It’s best to book ahead at busy times as places do get booked up quickly.

Skiing as a family:

For real beginners we would suggest Samoëns 1600, the ski schools and all the beginner lifts are situated around the plateau and are easy to access, equipment can be hired from the ski shop and left there at the end of the day, it’s an easy place to meet up and there are several restaurants nearby.

More adventurous children can lead their parents off to the summit at Tête de Saix and over into Flaine where there are enough green, blue, red and black runs to keep everyone happy. Or you take the lift up to Morillon 1100, from there an expanse of runs opens up across the bowl and over the ridge to Les Carroz, where tree lined runs criss cross the mountain.

Again it’s easy to get back to base to meet up. Both areas have a good Jardin de Neige for younger children. Keeping children happy in ski school can be a challenge; we can advise on the different options available and put you in touch with independent instructors as well as the local French ski school.

Après ski:

Not all children collapse with exhaustion after a days skiing, if they still need to work off some energy try the skating rinks at Samoëns or Morillon, practice tobogganing and ski techniques on the slope behind the chalet or enjoy the selection of games and puzzles inside.
